Ambience

The school is built on a 24-acre campus amidst groves of fruit trees and flowering plants, imbibing the ambience of Santiniketan. The climate is dry and salubrious. Acres of mango orchards and other fruit and flowering trees make the campus an attractive place.

The classes are held under the trees amongst the gardens on the model of Santiniketan. This exposes the pupils to the nature as a part of life. In particularly bad weather or for special purposes of education, children are lead to the class rooms. For this, adequate number of class rooms have been built.

This is co-educational school.

Languages

Medium of instructions is English. A high standard of English is maintained. Hindi will be taught as the second language and with care so that each child develops a good flair for the language. Optional languages available are Bengali, Sanskrit or Urdu from the sixth standard. The facility in the optional languages is ensured to be at the same level as Hindi.

Teaching method

Teaching is carried out using modern methods of learning by participation, project work, library work etc. Audio-visual methods are used profusely. Specially-equipped teaching laboratories are used to impart information through computers and video-television programs.

Guided home study hours are compulsory to take care of the extra need of each student so that all students achieve high standard and variation between the students' performance is reduced.

Audio-visual education

A well-stocked video and interactive CD Educational program library is maintained. Teachers are trained to take full advantage of these methods of imparting audio-visual education.

An array of computers, VCPs and other audio-visual equipment such as the slide projectors, overhead projectors etc. are available for daily use.

Science laboratories

Science laboratories with adequate capacity have been created for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Library

A fine library of books, records and video tapes is managed by a librarian for the school. The library is a part of the central library of the Institute. The books include reference and general knowledge sections. Guided extra curricular study is encouraged.

Dining room

A self-service dining room is shared by all classes. However, separate timings are provided for each class. Special meals for health reasons only are provided. The guardians should indicate the preference for vegetarian or non-vegetarian food in advance. Meals are nutritionally balanced.

Clinic

A sick bay is provided for small ailments attached to the hostels where special care specified by the physician can be provided. Semester system

The school is run on semester system and has 4 semesters every year.

Educational tours

The guided tours are used as a lesson in development of values related to environment and culture and will be organized by 'Anandalaya'.

The school also organizes other suitable tours to places of historical and cultural interest.

Computer literacy

All students learn the use of computers in their studies. However, the computers are not used in regular class work or in examinations. They use computers for extra curricular work. The objective is to train the students in the use of computers in their personal life.

Physical education

Physical education is an essential part of building up a healthy body, which helps the development of a healthy mind.

Yoga

Yoga is taught from the lowest classes. It is extremely beneficial to every person as it helps to build a good body and leads to discipline. Many conditions are remedied through Yoga.

Drills

Drills are a routine activity for all classes and are held every day under trained physical education teachers.

Sports

Various sports and games are available, amongst them are Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton etc. Apart from these games, training is also available in running, jumping and squash.

Dance and Music

Dance and Music are seen as a need for every person to mould character and values. Thus, all students participate in one or other opportunities made available to them. The training is provided in Dance, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music and Percussion Instruments.

Dramatics

Dramas are integral part of self-expression through coordinated effort. It also builds group cohesion, cooperation and collective responsibility. The dramas of Tagore and Tagore's idiom are the main instruments of expression at 'Anandalaya'. Modern dramas will also form part of the training.

Fine arts

Drawing, painting and clay modelling education will be under competent teachers. All students will have the opportunity to develop their skills. Some may want to concentrate on these skills with an eye to enter Kala Bhavan or other schools of art.

Crafts

Cane and Bamboo, Manipuri Loom, Ceramics, Needlework, Carpet Weaving etc. are taught to the students. From time to time, new crafts are also introduced for increasing variety of choices. The training in these crafts helps children to develop deftness of manipulation of fingers, appreciation for the craftsmanship and enjoying making a product from the raw material from scratch to finish. Most children value what they make and guard it more than the best things that they buy.

Gardening and Horticulture

Tending gardens of fruit trees and flowering plants are additional subjects available. The program has both theoretical as well as practical work. The program is intended to develop skills as well as love for growing plants of various types. The basic understanding of the plants and love for them is developed from tending gardens. The gardening helps children to live tension-free life later.

Guest house

A small quest house accommodation for parents and visitors is available by prior booking and on payment. There are other lodging facilities available at Madhupur. No drinking or smoking is allowed on the campus.

All systems health dispensaries

Medical practitioners and dispensing medicines in Allopathic, Homeopathic and Ayurvedic systems are available. For special requirements, arrangements are made.

In-house ambulance

An ambulance is available at all hours on the premises in case of any eventuality.

'Anandalaya' is situated in Jagdishpur near Madhupur, which is well known for its salubrious climate and is a favourite holiday resort of the Eastern region. Madhupur is a sub-divisional headquarter of Deoghar district in Jharkhand State.
